What is actually included in the monthly bookkeeping and management accounts service?
Bookkeeping covers transaction categorisation, monthly bank reconciliation via Xero bank feeds, and VAT-ready records maintained throughout the year. Management accounts are produced within 5 working days of month close and include profit and loss, balance sheet, margin analysis and a plain English commentary on what the numbers mean. Both services are scoped together — the fee is agreed upfront and does not change month to month without discussion.
How is the monthly fee calculated, and is pricing published anywhere?
Fees are scoped individually following the discovery call — they depend on transaction volume, whether a backlog exists, and the complexity of the management accounts required. Next Level does not publish pricing on the website, because a template price would either overcharge simpler setups or underscope complex ones. The proposal you receive after the call will have a clear monthly figure with no ambiguity about what is included.
My bookkeeping is months behind. Can you pick that up, or is it too much of a mess?
A backlog is the most common starting point. The first step is a review of where things stand — how far behind, what software is in use, and whether there are categorisation errors to correct. A catch-up fee is scoped separately from the ongoing monthly work and agreed before anything starts. Most backlogs are resolved within the first month of working together.
Is there a long-term contract, and what happens if I want to leave?
There is no long-term contract. The arrangement is monthly, with a reasonable notice period agreed at the outset — typically one month. If you leave, your books are up to date, your Xero access is yours, and there is nothing owed beyond the final month’s fee. The arrangement works because the service is useful, not because leaving is difficult.
Do I need Xero already, or is setup included?
Xero setup is included in the onboarding process if you do not already use it. Bank feeds are connected, the chart of accounts is structured to suit your business, and any integrations relevant to how you operate are configured at the start. If you are already on Xero, the transition is simply a matter of access and reviewing what is already there.
Will the management accounts help me understand my tax position during the year?
Monthly management accounts give you a running view of profitability, which directly informs your Corporation Tax position throughout the year rather than leaving it as a year-end surprise. If the numbers indicate a material liability building, that is flagged in the monthly commentary. Tax planning is a natural part of the ongoing conversation — not a separate engagement bolted on at the last minute.
