What people usually ask about payroll

Do you handle auto-enrolment as well as payroll, or is that separate?+

Auto-enrolment is included as part of the payroll service — it is not a separate add-on. That covers pension scheme setup, employee eligibility assessments, contribution calculations, opt-out processing and the triennial re-enrolment cycle. If your existing auto-enrolment setup has gaps or has never been properly configured, that is identified during onboarding and resolved before the first payroll run goes out.

What does the payroll service cost and what is included in the fee?+

Fees are fixed monthly and scoped to your specific setup — headcount, pay frequency and pension complexity are the main factors. There is no public pricing because a business with two monthly-paid employees has different requirements to one with twelve weekly-paid staff and multiple pension schemes. The fee is agreed on the free discovery call, covers everything described on this page, and does not change without a conversation first.

My current payroll records are in a bit of a mess. Can you take it on mid-year?+

Yes, and it is more common than you might expect. Before the first live payroll run, existing records are reviewed, year-to-date figures reconciled, and any discrepancies identified. Where records are incomplete or incorrect, the catch-up work required is scoped and costed separately so you know exactly what is involved before committing. It is considerably easier to sort it now than to carry errors into a new tax year.

Is there a minimum contract length? What happens if I want to leave?+

There is no long-term contract. The arrangement is monthly and can be ended with reasonable notice. If you leave, you receive all payroll records, RTI history and pension correspondence in a format your next provider can use immediately. The books are yours — they leave with you, not with the accountant.

Can you handle payroll for businesses outside Bournemouth and Dorset?+

Yes. The service is cloud-based via Xero, which means location is no barrier. Payroll is managed remotely for clients across Dorset, Hampshire and the wider UK. Payslips are delivered digitally, RTI submissions are filed electronically, and communication happens by phone, email or video — whichever works best for your business.

How does payroll connect to my bookkeeping and year-end accounts?+

Where bookkeeping is also handled here, payroll journals are posted directly into Xero each pay period, which keeps your management accounts accurate in real time and makes year-end preparation considerably more straightforward. Even where bookkeeping is handled elsewhere, payroll records are maintained in a clean, compatible format so nothing needs rebuilding at year-end.
