Still not sure what your tax bill will be this year?
Self-assessment catches a lot of people out. The return sits in the background, the deadline creeps up, and January arrives with a bill that was never quite planned for. DIY returns miss allowances. Late ones attract penalties. And HMRC correspondence has a habit of feeling more serious than it needs to be when nobody is handling it on your behalf.
- Tax bill arriving as a surprise in January with very little time to pay
- Allowable expenses not claimed because nobody reviewed them properly
- Penalties and HMRC letters from a late or inaccurate self-filed return
What a well-handled return looks like
Your tax position is calculated and explained well before the deadline. Every allowance is reviewed. The return is filed accurately and on time by an AAT Licensed accountant. You know what you owe, when you owe it, and why.
- Tax bill calculated and communicated months before the January payment deadline
- All allowances, reliefs and deductible expenses reviewed — nothing left on the table
- Return prepared and filed by an AAT Licensed accountant — accurately, on time
- Fixed fee scoped to your situation — no surprises on the invoice either
What clients say about working with Annabel
Three verified Google reviews, all five stars. Different businesses, different situations — the common thread is that things were sorted and explained clearly.
I have recently had the pleasure of the wonderful service of Annabel, appointed as my bookkeeper and accountant. Having never been self employed or a limited company before, the support and advice I have had has been extremely helpful and has set my mind at ease knowing that any problems or queries I have will be handled or answered. Friendly, supportive and very quick to respond to any queries or sort advice. I would 100% recommend.
I switched accountants to work with Annabel because I felt she truly cared about helping businesses to take control of their finances. She opened my eyes to how an accountant actually should work with you! She has fixed so many lazy, unprofessional mistakes by my old accountant by being so meticulously thorough, offering amazing business advice & has saved me thousands! She even went through my dad’s accounts who had been through liquidation & had a really tough time just because she cared & wanted to see if she could help. I 100% trust Annabel & she proves time & time again why it was the best move for my business to switch to her. I highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for someone who genuinely cares, who is meticulously thorough & offers great advice!
What the self-assessment service covers
A fixed-fee service that takes the return off your plate entirely — preparation, review, filing and the tax planning conversation that should have been happening all along.

Why this firm over any other accountant
There is no shortage of accountants who will file a return. The difference is what happens around the return — the tax planning, the explanation, and the fact that Annabel handles it personally.
Tax Planned, Not Just Filed
Filing the return is the minimum. The more useful work is knowing your tax position throughout the year — so the January bill is not a surprise and there is time to act on anything that can reduce it. That conversation is part of the service, not an extra.
Plain English, Every Time
Your tax return and your liability are explained in a way that makes sense, not in a way that demonstrates how complicated it all is. If you want to understand what you are paying and why, that is entirely achievable. Most clients find it considerably less mysterious than they expected.
AAT Licensed and Award-Winning
Annabel is a fully qualified, insured and regulated AAT Licensed Accountant (licence no. 1008354). South England Prestige Awards Winner 2025/26 and Visionary Woman Founder to Watch 2026. Every self-assessment return is reviewed by Annabel personally — not passed to a junior or outsourced.
Up and running in three straightforward steps
There is no paperwork to prepare before the call. Bring whatever you have and Annabel will work out what is needed from there.
Free discovery call
A free, no-obligation 20 to 30 minute call. Annabel asks about your income sources, your current setup and what the last return looked like. No scripts, no pitch deck. You get honest advice whether you become a client or not.
Tailored proposal and fee
A proposal built around your specific situation — sole trader, director, landlord, multiple income sources, whatever applies. The fee is fixed, scoped to what is actually needed, and agreed before any work begins. No surprises.
Handover and filing
You share your income and expense records — bank statements, invoices, whatever you have — and Annabel handles the rest. The return is prepared, reviewed with you so you understand the numbers, and filed with HMRC. Your tax bill is known well before the deadline.
“Working with Annabel has been fantastic. She has made the whole process of changing accountants so smooth and stress-free. Her step-by-step guidance and clear communication made everything easy to follow, even for someone who does not naturally “speak accounts.” Annabel’s energy, passion, and genuine desire to help people understand their business finances really shine through in everything she does. Her support and knowledge have been superb, and I now see her as a vital part of my business and its continued growth. Thank you, Annabel, for all your help; you truly live up to your company name!”
Things people usually ask before getting in touch
I have multiple income sources — employment, freelance work and rental income. Can you handle all of that in one return?
Yes. Returns covering employment income, self-employment, rental income, dividends and capital gains are all handled as part of the service. You will not need to brief a different specialist for each income type. The return is prepared as a whole, with the allowances and reliefs relevant to each source reviewed together.
What does it cost to have my self-assessment return handled?
Fees are fixed and scoped to your specific situation — the number of income sources, whether bookkeeping is needed alongside the return, and whether there is any catch-up work required. There is no published price list because a straightforward sole trader return and a director’s return with property income and dividend planning are genuinely different pieces of work. The fee is agreed before anything starts, with no surprises.
My records from last year are not in great shape. Can you still sort the return?
Disorganised records are the most common starting point, not the exception. Annabel will work through what you have — bank statements, receipts, invoices — and identify what is missing before any work is priced. If there is a backlog across multiple years, that is scoped separately and clearly. You will know exactly what it involves and what it costs before committing.
Is there a minimum contract or am I locked in for a year?
No minimum contract. Self-assessment is typically handled on an annual basis, scoped and agreed for each tax year. If you decide not to continue, your records and filing history are returned to you in order. Nothing is held back and nothing is owed beyond the agreed fee for work completed.
What is the deadline for filing my self-assessment return, and what happens if it is missed?
The online filing deadline is 31 January following the end of the tax year. Miss it and HMRC issues an automatic £100 penalty, with further daily charges after three months. Filing early — and knowing your liability well in advance — means both the deadline and any payment surprise are largely avoidable. Returns are filed well before January as a matter of course.
Can you help me reduce how much tax I pay, or is it just a case of filing what is there?
Reviewing the return for allowable expenses, reliefs and planning opportunities is part of the service, not an add-on. For directors, that includes salary and dividend structuring. For sole traders, it includes the full range of deductible expenses and any relevant reliefs. The return reflects your actual position — accurately and completely, not conservatively or carelessly.
