Not entirely sure your MTD setup is right?
Making Tax Digital has been mandatory for VAT-registered businesses above the threshold for some time, but that does not mean every business is handling it correctly. The wrong software, a submission made outside the digital link requirement, or a return filed late — each carries a penalty exposure most owners do not find out about until the letter arrives. For many, the bigger problem is not the rule itself but the fact that no one has ever explained clearly what it actually requires.
- VAT returns filed manually or through non-MTD-compatible software, without realising
- No clear record of whether quarterly submissions are on time or in breach
- Uncertainty about which VAT scheme applies and whether it is costing you money
What MTD compliance actually looks like
MTD-compliant bookkeeping through Xero, quarterly returns filed on time, scheme reviewed against your numbers, and HMRC correspondence handled before it becomes your problem. That is the standard — and it should be.
- MTD-compatible Xero setup with digital links, records correct from the start
- Every quarterly submission tracked and filed on time — no missed deadlines
- VAT scheme reviewed at the outset and monitored as your turnover changes
- Fixed monthly fee — scoped to your business, confirmed before anything starts

I 100% trust Annabel & she proves time & time again why it was the best move for my business to switch to her. Everything MTD compliance requires, handled
Three components, all included in a single fixed monthly fee — scoped to your business after the free discovery call, with no extras added later.
MTD-Compatible Bookkeeping via Xero
Your records kept in Xero throughout the quarter — bank feeds connected, transactions categorised, VAT codes applied correctly. The digital link requirement is met by default, not retrofitted. When the quarter closes, the figures are already ready.
Included as standardQuarterly VAT Return Filing
Each return prepared from your Xero data, reviewed for accuracy and filed directly to HMRC via the MTD gateway before the deadline. Scheme advice — flat rate, cash accounting, standard — is part of the setup, not an add-on. If HMRC write to you, that goes through us.
Filed every quarterScheme Review and Threshold Monitoring
Your VAT position is monitored as turnover changes — so you will not cross the registration threshold without knowing it, and you will not stay on the wrong scheme longer than makes sense. Advice is included when something needs to change, not billed separately.
Ongoing, not just at setupConsistent feedback across every engagement
Three verified Google reviews, three different client situations — switching accountants, new business setup, and ongoing support. The common thread is straightforward.
Saved Thousands Through Thorough, Accurate Work
“She has fixed so many lazy, unprofessional mistakes by my old accountant by being so meticulously thorough, offering amazing business advice & has saved me thousands!”
Changed Accountants and Never Looked Back
“Her step-by-step guidance and clear communication made everything easy to follow, even for someone who does not naturally “speak accounts.” Annabel’s energy, passion, and genuine desire to help people understand their business finances really shine through in everything she does.”
Set Mind at Ease from Day One
“Having never been self employed or a limited company before, the support and advice I have had has been extremely helpful and has set my mind at ease knowing that any problems or queries I have will be handled or answered.”
Not just filing the return — handling the whole thing
Any accountant can submit a VAT return. The question is whether yours is monitoring your position, reviewing your scheme, and keeping HMRC away from your inbox.
Digital Links Done Correctly
MTD requires a complete digital trail from source records to submission — no manual re-keying anywhere in the chain. Xero is set up to meet that requirement as standard, not patched together at quarter-end. You will not have a compliance gap you did not know about.
Every Deadline, Without Chasing
Quarterly deadlines are tracked and submissions are filed before they fall due — not on the day. If HMRC issue a surcharge notice or a query, it is handled directly so it does not land on your desk as an emergency. Compliance is the floor, not the ceiling.
Scheme Advice in Plain English
Flat rate, standard, cash accounting — the right scheme depends on your margins, your sector and your turnover trajectory. Annabel reviews it at the outset and revisits it as your numbers change, explaining the difference in terms that are useful rather than technical. You will know which scheme you are on and why.
Up and running in three steps
From initial call to first MTD-compliant submission, most clients are set up inside a fortnight. The transition is handled entirely on this side.
Free discovery call
A 20-30 minute call with Annabel — no scripts, no pitch deck. She asks about your current VAT setup, which software you are using and whether there are any outstanding returns or compliance questions. You get honest answers whether you proceed or not.
Scoped proposal, clear fee
A proposal built around your specific situation — turnover, VAT scheme, filing history. One fixed monthly fee, covering bookkeeping, quarterly returns and HMRC liaison. No ambiguity about what is and is not included.
Xero set up, we take it from here
Xero is configured for MTD, bank feeds connected, and your previous records reviewed. If there are outstanding returns or corrections needed, those are scoped and handled. From this point, the quarterly cycle runs without you having to manage it.
“I have recently had the pleasure of the wonderful service of Annabel, appointed as my bookkeeper and accountant. Having never been self employed or a limited company before, the support and advice I have had has been extremely helpful and has set my mind at ease knowing that any problems or queries I have will be handled or answered. Friendly, supportive and very quick to respond to any queries or sort advice. I would 100% recommend.”
Straightforward answers about MTD and VAT
What exactly does Making Tax Digital for VAT require, and how do I know if I am meeting it?
MTD for VAT requires that VAT-registered businesses above the threshold keep digital records and submit returns using MTD-compatible software with no manual re-keying in the chain — this is the digital link requirement. Xero satisfies both. If you are currently filing through HMRC’s own portal, a spreadsheet or bridging software, the setup will be reviewed on the discovery call and any gaps corrected before the next return is due.
What does MTD compliance support cost, and what is included?
Fees are scoped to each client following the discovery call — they depend on your turnover, transaction volume and whether bookkeeping is included alongside the quarterly returns. There is a single fixed monthly fee with no per-return charges and no HMRC liaison billed separately. The proposal confirms everything in writing before anything starts, so there are no surprises.
My VAT returns are behind, or I am not sure they have been filed correctly. Can you help?
Yes. Clients arrive in all kinds of situations — missed returns, returns filed outside the MTD gateway, or simply no certainty about whether past submissions were correct. The starting point is a review of your filing history and Xero records. Any outstanding work is scoped separately and clearly costed, then dealt with before the regular quarterly cycle begins.
Is there a minimum contract? What happens if I want to leave?
There is no long-term contract. If the arrangement is not working after three months, you leave with MTD-compliant Xero records, all submissions up to date, and nothing owed beyond the work completed. The records are yours — a clean handover to whoever you move to is straightforward.
I am approaching the VAT registration threshold. What do I need to do?
The threshold is monitored as part of the ongoing service — you will not cross it without knowing it is coming. When turnover approaches the point of mandatory registration, you will be advised in advance so the registration is timely rather than retrospective. Registering late triggers a penalty and a potentially unwelcome back-calculation of output tax owed; neither is preferable to registering on time.
How do I know which VAT scheme is right for my business?
The flat rate scheme suits some businesses well — typically those with low input VAT and higher margins — and costs others money by producing a higher effective VAT bill than standard accounting. Cash accounting can improve cash flow for businesses with slow-paying customers. The right scheme is reviewed at the outset against your actual numbers, and revisited if your turnover or cost structure changes materially.
