Personal Tax Planning for Directors

Personal Tax Planning for Directors

Keep more of what your company earns, planned all year.

You take money out as salary and dividends, but nobody has sat down with you to work out whether that split is actually the most tax-efficient one for your situation. Pension, benefits, how your spouse fits in: all of it is decided at year-end, when it is too late to change much. Annabel has 16 years of in-business experience, including as a Finance Director. She is an AAT Licensed Accountant, and you hear back within one working day.

  • Your salary and dividend split worked out to suit your situation, not a template
  • Pension contributions used to bring your tax bill down, legitimately
  • Your tax bill visible well before the January deadline
  • Spouse involvement and benefits considered where they genuinely help

No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean books and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

Taking money out, but not sure it is the right way?

Most directors pay themselves a bit of salary and the rest in dividends, because that is what they were told to do once. Nobody revisits it as income changes, as the company grows, or as personal allowances shift. By the time the year-end accounts land, the decisions that could have lowered your tax bill have already been made for you by the calendar.

  • A salary and dividend split set years ago and never reviewed
  • Pension and benefits only looked at after the year has closed
  • A personal tax bill that arrives as an unwelcome surprise in January

What planned ahead looks like

Your personal tax is looked at alongside the company, through the year, not bolted on at year-end. The split between salary, dividends and pension is set to suit your actual income and goals, with time to act while it still counts.

  • Salary and dividend split reviewed against your real income each year
  • Pension and benefits planned in time to make a difference
  • Your tax bill estimated early, so January holds no surprises
  • A fixed fee agreed up front, scoped to your situation

She opened my eyes to how an accountant actually should work with you! She has fixed so many lazy, unprofessional mistakes by my old accountant by being so meticulously thorough, offering amazing business advice & has saved me thousands! She even went through my dad’s accounts who had been through liquidation & had a really tough time just because she cared & wanted to see if she could help. I 100% trust Annabel & she proves time & time again why it was the best move for my business to switch to her. Why Next Level

Tax advice from someone who has run the numbers from the inside

Most tax planning is a box ticked at year-end. This is personal tax looked at commercially, through the year, by someone who has sat in the director’s chair.

📊

Advice from the inside, not the desk

Annabel spent 16 years inside growing businesses, including as a Finance Director, not processing returns from a distance. So the advice on how you pay yourself fits what the company can actually afford and where it is heading.

📅

Planned year-round, not at year-end

Most of what lowers a director’s tax bill has to be decided before the year closes. You get the salary, dividend and pension conversation while there is still time to act, not a report telling you what you could have done.

💬

Explained in plain English

No jargon, no spreadsheet dumped on you to decipher. You get a clear view of what you are drawing, what the tax looks like, and what the smart next move is, from someone who deals with you directly.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

A free call, a fixed fee, and the handover done for you. You do very little beyond telling Annabel how you currently pay yourself.

1

Book a free call

A free 20 to 30 minute call with Annabel. Tell her how you draw money from the company now and what you want from it. You get honest advice whether you go ahead or not.

2

Get a fixed-fee proposal

A proposal scoped to your situation, with a fixed fee agreed up front and no surprises. Priced around what you actually need, not a template tier.

3

We handle the handover

We take the admin off your plate and get your records into Xero, moving things over from your current setup. You sign where needed and little else.

4

Know where you stand

Your pay structure reviewed, your tax bill visible ahead of time, and a plan you understand. Fewer surprises, and more of what the company earns kept where it should be.

Questions

Director tax planning, answered

What does director tax planning actually cover beyond the tax return?+

It looks at how you take money out of the company: salary, dividends, pension contributions, benefits and, where relevant, spouse involvement. The aim is to work out the most efficient structure for your situation, not just file what has already happened. It is a year-round conversation, because most of the useful decisions have to be made before the year closes.

What does it cost?+

Fees are scoped to your situation and agreed on the free discovery call, then fixed. There is no published price list, because a single-director company drawing a modest income needs less than a group with multiple shareholders. You will know the fixed fee before you commit to anything.

My current accountant only looks at this at year-end. Can you review what is already set up?+

Yes. A common starting point is a director who has paid themselves the same way for years without anyone checking it still makes sense. Annabel will review your current salary and dividend split, pension and benefits, and tell you plainly whether it is working or whether there is a better option.

Am I tied in?+

No long-term contract. There is an initial three-month settling-in period, after which either side can walk away with clean books and nothing outstanding. If it is not working, you leave with your records in order.

Does this work if I am UK-wide and not near Bournemouth?+

Yes. The practice is cloud-based via Xero, with onboarding and support handled remotely by video and phone. Annabel is based in Bournemouth and works with directors across Dorset, Hampshire and the wider UK, so your location is no barrier.

Will I know my personal tax bill before January?+

That is the point of planning ahead. Your estimated tax position is worked out through the year rather than sprung on you when the return is filed. You get time to put money aside and, where there is room, to act before the year closes.
